The Nature of Dirt

Whenever dirt settles on the floor, or a piece of furniture, surface tension occurs between the surface and the dirt particle, known as surface tension. This is caused when molecules are attracted to similar molecules, in a process termed cohesion. In fact, the surface molecules aren’t surrounded by the same type of molecules on every side. So they are drawn to the dirt molecules near them. Besides, dirt has a either a negative charge or anionic or positive in nature. Typical chemicals used in cleaning maintain a positive charge, making them ionic. Therefore, when the mop or piece of cloth moves across a hard surface, the surfactant with a positive charge attracts and thereby removes the dirt that has a negative charge. Since opposites attract, the cleaning agent with a positive charge attracts the dirt with a negative charge, like any magnet, and help in the removal of all unwanted matter.

With a combination of nonionic chemicals as well as cleaning tools with a positive charge like microfiber mops and wipes, surfaces become thoroughly cleaned without attracting more dirt. Thus by understanding the methods prescribed by the science of cleaning, surfaces get cleaned and remained cleaned for long periods of time, resulting in a cleaner and healthier building.
